WELCOME TO GEOMETRY, the highest level math class offered at SPMS. Our text and primary resource is GEOMETRY, published by McDougal- Littell.
The students have an assignment sheet on which they record their assignments and grades.
Updated quarter grades were posted June 4. To finish the year, we will focus on Advanced Algebra concepts.
The key to success in this class is the same as any math class. Do the assignment the day it is presented in class, not the night before it is due. As questions. Take advantage of extra credit problem solving opportunities.
SEPTEMBER CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS PARTY--SEE BELOW
Thanks to Jake, Daniel, and Daniel for hosting our September celebration. The theme was the drought, and the students had to work to get their water and treats, solving mathematical problems to find empty lockers where the liquid was hidden.
OCTOBER CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
HALLOWEEN PROOFS--SEE BELOW
A googol of thanks to Ree Ha, Aidan, Philip, and Eric for hosting our October celebration. The theme was Halloween Proofs. Each time solved one or two proofs, leading to a raffle with a delicious prize!
INSPIRED by a visit from Pythagoras himself, the Geometry class executed some remarkable proofs and used their results to decorate the otherwise drab cafeteria!
Rumors, rumors: "Clair and I believe that Mr. Buhler and Mr. McCoy un-leashed the fire
during math so the geometry class of 2008 would have to fight it with
proofs. Therefore, we would be doing "fire proof" proofs!"
NOVEMBER CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
OFF-HAND CIRLCES--SEE BELOW
MANY thanks to ARITRA, NICK, and ERIK for hosting our November celebration. The theme was Off-Hand Circle Drawing, with the winning team getting a whole PI all to themselves!
It seemed to take a little time for the winning team to comprehend the difference between and circle and a star, but once they did, Alex, Max, Anton, and Rin drew a near perfect 6.25 cm radius circle!
DECEMBER CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
HO HO HO HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE FESTIVITIES HOSTED BY ELVES MELODY, BRIANNA, CLAIRE, SOOJI, MICHELLE & LILLIE! RACING UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS AND HALLOWED HALLS IN SEARCH OF THE TREASURE, THANK YOU GIRLS FOR A DELIGHTFUL CELEBRATION AND FOR SOME MUCH NEEDED EXERCISE.
MEANWHILE, PEACE AND CALM RULED WHEN MR. BOSMA, FORMER SPMS TEACHER, RETURNED TO GUIDE THE STUDENTS IN PAPER-CUTTING AND A POP-UP CHRISTMAS TREE.

AND WHEN THE ACTION LAGGED, IT WAS TIME FOR SKITTLES, A POPULAR GAME IN THE 1960'S.
JANUARY CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
January concluded with our monthly celebration, hosted this time by Libby, Audrey, Joyce, and Christian. The theme of using all our senses to solve problems is demonstrated by Theo, who had to guess the brand of cereal without looking. Thank you, LAJC!
RED HOT GEOMETRICIANS
Brad Risser from Flir Corporation visited the Geometry class and shared about his work with thermographic cameras. The students had their pictures taken and showed they are indeed Brains on Fire!
FEBRUARY CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE
After studying the Geometry of Frogs and Concentric Circles, Aashrita, Glo, Lia, and Tiff hosted our February celebration of excellence.
MARCH IS PI MONTH, WITH MARCH 14TH BEING THE CULMINATION. TO CELEBRATE, SO WE THANK GAVIN, JOANNA, YEE-LUM, AND FREDDY FOR THEIR GEOMETRIC PARTY!
ALOHA! THE BEST WAY TO STUDY AND TAKE A GEOMETRY TEST IS ON THE SANDY SHORES OF HAWAII =)
THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE IN GEOMETRY...LIKE THE COMPLETION OF CHAPTER 12 ON SOLIDS AND THEIR EQUIVALENT LIQUID MEASURES!
IF FEDOR CAN CLEAN 7 STRAWBERRIES PER MINUTE, WHILE HARRY MIXES 7 DIPS IN THE SAME TIME, AND CLAIR SEPARATES 41 CUPS, AND THEO BLENDS 1 GALLON OF SOME FIESTA MIXTURE, THEN HOW MANY STARVING STUDENTS CAN BE SERVED?
SOOOOOOOOOOOO many things to celebrate, soooooooooo little time! We had a lot to celebrate at our May party--successful CST exams, the completion of our textbook, glorious Pythagorean proofs...Thanks go to Cody, Matthew, and James for the festivities. Our party focused on the law of gravity, probability, and edible concentric circles.
